Teaching

I have been playing the bagpipe since my teenage years. I got my first inspirations next to my grandfather, Georgios Karakousis, and later next to my uncle Vasilios Karakousis, members of a family that has gone through seven generations of popular instrumentalists. My great-grandfather Stergios Karakousis has been recorded in the 7th Folk Winter of Melikis.

From the summer of 1998 I started recording in Alistrati Serron and in the surrounding villages of Eastern Macedonia and at the same time I started searching for older recordings. In those years, you learned bagpipes with repartee and meetings. So then I met several bagpipe players, such as Pappou Ilias Kouventaris from Agriani Serres, Dimitrios Kota from Kalivrysi of Drama, Giannis Dobridis from Thrace, Markos Pavlou from Volakas Drama, Petko Stefanov from Bulgaria, and many others older as well as modern instrumentalists.

Alongside the research and practice in the area of the authentic performance of the woodwinds of Macedonia and Thrace, I was also active in the broader contemporary Greek scene, having collaborated (concerts and discography) with artists such as Kristi Stasinopoulos, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Chronis Aedonidis , Petroloukas Chalkias, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Antonis and Michalis Fragiadakis, Christos Tsiamoulis, Domna Samiou, the Hainides, Orpheas Peridis,

Melina Kana, Lizeta Kalimeri, Pantelis Thalassinos, George and Nikos Stratakis, Takis and Anna Bourma, Dimitris Zervoudakis...

In 2006 we represented the Greek bagpipe with my uncle Vasilios Karakousis at the Pan-European Bagpipe Festival in Schwaben, Germany. In 2010 and 2012 I represented the Greek bagpipes at the William Kennedy International Piping Festival in Ireland and in 2011 at the Glasgow International Piping Festival in Scotland.
Also, there were performances with various artistic collaborations at the Herodeion, at the Lycabettus Theater, as well as at international festivals in Canada, America, Brazil,  Cyprus and Europe.

In recent years, apart from my artistic activity, I have been involved  with teaching and making the Greek bagpipe.
